Google Voice, the free service that offers free PC-to-phone calls for US phone numbers, will receive some improvements in the near future according to Google’s Nikhyl Singhal post on Google+. The developers are also working on including MMS support into the app, but there’s no mention of a final date for when these features will become available.
In his post, Nikhyl Singhal, also stated they are striving to improve Google Voice’s security and an important step in doing so would be to shut down third-party apps that use Google Voice to offer SMS and calling. This means, Google Voice services will no longer be available on other platforms besides Windows, Android and iOS, unless the devs will decide otherwise at some point in the future.
…we’re notifying these app developers that they must stop making unauthorized use of Google Voice to run their services and transition users by May 15, 2014.
