Latest Inbox update improves email snoozing

Google’s Inbox email client is already pretty smart. For example, one of the most recent updates added reminder suggestions based on the content of your email. The app is about a year old and for a good while it used an invite-only system which of course, allowed access to a limited number of users, but also made it more alluring (think “the forbidden fruit”).

The latest update improves a rather handy feature Inbox is offering, specifically the ability to snooze emails.  Before this, the app allowed us to snooze emails for a certain amount of time. The feature now also uses the context of your emails – specifically for received messages that contain dates and times like restaurant reservations and package tracking updates.

In the case of such emails, Inbox lets you snooze the emails to the right time – for a hotel reservation you can set the email to show up at the top of your inbox an hour before check-in.

Not any email can be snoozed this way though. Google says the feature works for most of the following email types:

  • Package tracking updates
  • Restaurant and event reservations
  • Calendar invites
  • Flight confirmations
  • Hotel reservations
  • Rental car reservations

You’ll still be able to snooze the rest of the emails, but without the context-based option so you’ll have to manually set the day and time for them. The update is made available as a gradual roll-out, so expect to be able to get it over the next few days, if you don’t see it yet in the Play Store.

The context-based email snoozing options may seem like an insignificant feature, but it’s useful nonetheless. A collection of such features is what makes Inbox by Gmail a fresh alternative to the traditional email client.
