There’s an upcoming Tactical RPG being developed by Brimstone Interactive, it’s called Shadow Corps, and it’s something you’ll probably want to keep an eye on. Shadow Corps has a futuristic team, and players will be controlling a team of mercenaries in a sci-fi shooter environment. An obvious comparison would be to the popular XCOM: Enemy Unknown which was ported to mobile devices not too long ago. Another good comparison would be Shadowrun Returns, which doesn’t necessarily have the same sci-fi shooter set-up as both XCOM and Shadow Corps, but they have very similar Gameplay mechanics.
It has been confirmed that the game will be free to download, and the developers promise that the IAP will be fair. From what we’ve heard, it sounds like most (if not all) of the micro-transactions are used to simply speed up progression and eliminate the need to grind out more levels. Personally, I think that is what a freemium model should always look like, and I’m happy to here there won’t be some annoying energy mechanic that prevents you from even playing the game at certain times.

Although we haven’t seen the game in action yet, there are some screenshots above to give you anidea of what it’s about. The design looks very nice, and there appears to be a very clean and organized UI which is pretty important with this genre. Still, a picture can speak a thousand words, but a video typically gets you the whole story — so we’ll wait to see that before getting too excited. With all of that being said, everything seems to be in place for a worthwhile freemium game, and now we just need to wait for the release date (which is currently unknown).
Shadow Corps will be available for both iOS and Android devices, and we’ll let you know exactly when that’s going to happen as soon as Brimstone announces it.
