Recently, it was announced that Dragon Quest IV for iOS would be a part of the lineup for Square Enix at Gamescom 2014. Among other titles like Nosgoth, Lara Croft and The Temple of Osiris, and the Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 ReMIX — mobile gamers were pleased to hear the confirmation of Dragon Quest IV.
Earlier this year, Square released Dragon Quest VIII on the Apple App Store for $19.99, and the game had a very positive response. Because of this, it wasn’t too surprising to see another Dragon Quest adaption for iOS devices. Depending on the success of IV, we could likely see further ports from this series to iOS.
The game itself was originally created for NES, but was later ported to Playstation in Japan, before eventually becoming a DS game as well. As for the iOS version, it is expected to be a pretty direct port from the DS version, with a handful of minor changes to suit the mobile environment. However, Square did a great job of leaving the core mechanics present in the port of Dragon Quest VIII, so it’s likely they’ll follow suit with that again.
Currently, there is no set release date for Dragon Quest IV on iOS, but we can definitely expect more details to come out when Gamescom kicks off — which is August 13th.
