It looks like LittleBigPlanet is making a move into the mobile market, starting with an Endless runner that will be titled Run Sackboy! Run! and releasing on iOS, Android, and PS Vita. Although there will be plenty of cosmetic aspects of the game that associate with LittleBigPlanet, it is still going to be a completely different game compared to the console title. For those that follow the series, but aren’t necessarily well-versed in mobile game genres, and Endless runner is typically a game where the main object is to just stay alive as long as you possibly can — a popular example would be Temple Run or Subway Surfers.

Run Sackboy Run should be released before the end of the year, and Sony is aiming for a possible October release date. They are obviously close to finalizing this game, as we actually have a fair amount of details, and the release is at least being tentatively labeled as a specific month and not just a year. It will be a free to play game, which almost always means at least a handful of IAPs, although nothing like that was confirmed in the announcement.

The game takes place in familiar areas of it’s parent game (LBP), including The Gardens, Canyons, and Avalonia. You play as Sackboy, but don’t think you’ll just be looking at his little brown outfit the whole time — there are plenty of costumes you can unlock and use during the game. Sackboy is on the run from the Negativitron, who is trying to vacuum him up. It’s your job to guide him via taps and swipes, through the game world, while avoiding obstacles and collecting bubbles.

Bubbles are the currency used to purchase costumes and power-ups for your Sackboy. Also, it should be noted that each costume has it’s own special perk or power-up, which makes it a bit more interesting than just a visual change. Other than that, players will be able to collect stickers throughout the game for their collections, and compete with each other on the leader-boards to see who can snag the high score. One thing that players of LittleBigPlanet will enjoy, is the sticker collecting rewards that actually give you costumes for the new LittleBigPlanet 3 game which should be out around the same time.

Keep an eye out for more details about Run Sackboy Run, as they will surely come to surface in the next few weeks as Sony gears up for the release.
