The Best Scary Mobile Games for Halloween

Halloween is right around the corner, and it’s the perfect time to indulge in some intense mobile horror games. I have to say, this list is going to put my Top 10 Mobile Horror Games to shame, so you can pretty much consider this the updated version. Most of these games are relatively cheap, or even free, and I’ve broken it down into three tiers. Enjoy!

The Scariest

Dungeon Nightmares

  • Price: $0.99
  • Platform: iOS [Download Link] Android [Download Link]

That trailer always manages to give me chills, and the actual game just takes that intensity to a whole other level. Dungeon Nightmares is definitely one of the scariest games available for mobile, and it’s extremely affordable at a $1 price-tag (there is a free version available as well). Unless you despise survival horror games, there’s no reason to not check this one out.

Hellraid: The Escape

  • Price: $2.99
  • Platform: iOS [Download Link] Android [Download Link]

If you’re one of the people who passed on Dungeon Nightmares because you despise survival games, this one might be able to change your outlook. It’s pretty much the survival game for people who don’t dig survival games, because you still get to kill your enemies — but mostly through trickery. Hellraid brings intense gameplay with some real action, and not always just hiding.

Dark Meadow: The Pact

One of my favorite mobile games is Dark Meadow: The Pact, and on top of that it’s a horror game, too! This game has a pretty cool story-line, fun combat system, and plenty of moments that will send chills down your spine. It’s one of the few games to make it from my previous top horror games list, but it’s just that good — plus it is now free to play!

Slender Man Origins

You can forgot about the original Slender Man game, because Origins is a lot more fun to play, and much more frightening as well. Origins has four different levels to play through, so the higher price-tag is a bit more reasonable. Think you can survive the night with Slender Man stalking you? Find out!

Moderately Frightening

Dead Space

  • Price: $4.99/$6.99
  • Platform: iOS [Download Link] Android [Download Link]

Although we’ve moved into the “Moderately Frightening” games, there’s still plenty to scare you here. Dead Space is another one of my favorite games, since it combines Horror and Sci-Fi elements with great story-telling and intense gameplay. It’s a bit spendy, but it’s most definitely worth it — especially if you’ve never played this on PC or console before.

Five Nights at Freddys

Chances are if you pay any attention to popular games on the mobile market (or even PC, in this case), then you already know all about Five Nights at Freddy’s. You play as a security guard working overnight at a Chuck E. Cheese knock-off restaraunt, and you just need to keep an eye on the animatronics — because as you know, animatronics will come to life at night and try to kill you.

The Walking Dead

I’m not sure why, maybe because it’s based on a TV show, or because I’ve seen so many zombies at this point — but TWD doesn’t seem to scare me as much as other games. Still, it’ll get a few “jump scares” out of you, but regardless of if you are a fan of the series, you will likely enjoy playing through this visually driven choose your own adventure style game. Plus, there are more episodes to play if you enjoy the first one.

  • Price: $10.99
  • Platform: iOS [Download Link]

Unfortunately, the mobile port of Bioshock wasn’t as great as I was hoping it would be, but that was primarily due to controls/lag. I haven’t seen this on the iPhone 6 or the new iPads yet, so it could run a lot better on those devices (which would make it much more enjoyable). For those who have never played BioShock before, I suggest playing on PC or console if you can, but the mobile version is there as a last resort.

Eyes: The Horror Game

  • Price: Free/$0.99
  • Platform: iOS [Download Link] Android [Download Link]

A lot of people say Eyes is extremely scary, but it doesn’t really compare to some of the others in my opinion. The gameplay isn’t quite as good either, but overall it is still a really solid thriller/survival game. It’s full of jump scares and intense moments fueled by heavy breathing from your character, and it’s very affordable (or free, depending on your platform).

Honorable Mentions

Into the Dead

Into the Dead isn’t really a scary game, but it is a lot of fun, and it’s got zombies so we’ll compromise with calling it an honorable mention. The concept is simple, see how many zombies you can take out before you die. Use an arsenal of weapons, both melee and ranged, to help you survive. Overall, a fantastic free to play game.

Labyrinths of Mind

  • Price: Free
  • Platform: iOS [Download Link] Android [Download Link]

The reason this one falls under honorable mentions is kind of the opposite of Into the Dead — it actually can be a pretty frightening game, but the gameplay isn’t really that great. Labyrinths of Mind is free to play though, so you’ve got nothing to lose if you want to give it a shot.

Zombonic Zombies

  • Price: $1.89
  • Platform: Android [Download Link]

One final game we have to share is Zombonic Zombies, which isn’t stellar on either account of Gameplay or Scariness, but is still pretty fun. It’s the same concept as Into the Dead, except you are restricted to one small area and one shotgun. You can turn 360 degrees, but you cant actually move around, which makes it pretty tough to stay alive.

That does it for our list of the scariest mobile games to play this Halloween! Hopefully you found something that’ll get your heartbeat racing. Let us know what your favorite game from our list was, or if there’s a scary game that you think should be included, via the comments section below.
