Bitvise SSH Client: A feature-rich, free SSH client

Bitvise SSH Client (formerly Bitvise Tunnelier) is a fast and secure SSH client that will let you transfer files and connect to a remote computer while integrating itself with other applications that use the same protocol.

Installation & Requirements

The installer is quite unique. Every option that you would normally get in multiple windows is present in the first and only window of the installation along with all of the usual options like creating shortcuts and running the application after the setup is done. The application supports all versions of Windows from 2000 and later.

Anyone who is not familiar with SSH clients will definitely have trouble with the interface and the program in general. The application is not shy about using technical terms that less tech savvy users will have trouble following. After all, SSH clients are not something an amateur user would tangle with so it should not be a problem. The interface is divided into several tabs that give you different options for the client. Depending on the way you want to use the application you might not even have to visit all of them.

Help can be found in one of two ways. You can either go to the product’s website where you will find a comprehensive list of guides and FAQs or you can simply click on the Help link located in the right side of every tab in order to get information about the tab you are currently in. The help information is very detailed, explaining every single feature and box and what you need to do to run each tab successfully.

The first thing you will need to do with the program is enter your login credentials. You will need to login if you want to access the more advanced features as the application needs to establish a secure connection. After that you should go to the options tab in order to customize the behavior of the program. For example, you might want to reconnect automatically if something goes wrong with the connection. Or you might want to connect manually every time for maximum security.

After you have configured all of the options required to optimally run the application, you will be ready to use all of the features like the Terminal, the Remote Desktop and the SFTP. You will obviously need to set up settings for each of them individually in order to get the most out of them but the default settings should also be fine. At least with the application you will know that your connections are definitely secure.

Bitvise SSH Client is definitely one of the best SSH clients in the market. However, you should know what you are doing before you download it as you will otherwise be too frustrated with how difficult the application is to operate.
