Windows 10 usually runs smoothly, but just like for any other OS, you can experience system crashes or even the inability to boot. Before manually troubleshooting anything, you might want to try the built-in system repair disk option.
You can create a system repair disk in Windows 10 and keep it on hand for those times when the system is unable to boot, not even in Safe Mode. You can use the system repair disk to try and recover the operating system, which is definitely a solution worth exploring.
How to create a system repair disk in Windows 10
Before anything else, you will need a blank DVD. Assuming you have one on hand, simply follow the instructions below to create a system repair disk in Windows 10.
Insert your blank DVD disk in your DVD/Blu-ray drive and open the Control Panel.
In Control Panel, navigate to System and Security -> Backup and Restore (Windows 7).
Click the “Create a system repair disk” option on the left.
Note: Here’s an even faster method to access the same option. Press Win + R to open the Run dialog and type the command below in the text box then hit Enter:
recdisc
This will directly open the Recovery Drive wizard.
Regardless which method you used, now you will need to select the DVD/Blu-ray drive. Once you’ve done that, you can click the “Create disk” button.
Now all you need to do is wait for the files to be copied to the disc. Then, you can remove your disk from the DVD/Blu-ray drive and store it somewhere safe. You never know when you’re going to need it!
I also feel compelled to mention that you shouldn’t mistake the system repair disk for a Windows 10 bootable disk or USB drive. A bootable disk is practically a system installation disk which will allow you to perform a fresh install of Windows 10.
