Starting with Windows 10 Insider build 15002 a new and interesting feature has become available. IT allows you to delay Feature and Quality Updates in Windows 10 and should become available to the general public in the Creators Update scheduled for April this year.
The feature also allows you to choose a branch from where updates are installed on your system. Here’s how it works.
How to delay Feature and Quality Updates in Windows 10
Open the Settings app and navigate to Update and Security -> Windows Update. Locate the ‘Advanced options’ link and click on it.
On the next screen, scroll down a bit and you will find a section called “Choose when Feature and Quality Updates are installed”. To begin with, you can choose the branch from which updates are installed between ‘Current Branch’ and ‘Current Branch for Business’.
If you choose the first option you will get updates at a higher frequency, while the second option pushes updates to your system at a slower pace since it has a longer testing period for them. Obviously, the Current Branch for Business also presents a lower risk of experiencing bugs.
What’s more, you can defer both feature and quality updates for up to 365 days. You can manually choose the number of days for each feature from their drop-down menus.
Since Windows 10 has reduced the control us users have over deferring or stopping updates, these new features are proof Microsoft is working to give us these options once more. Nevertheless, Windows 10 has a different update system compared to older editions, so the new features are somewhat different that what we’ve been used to.
Nevertheless, if you’re enrolled in the Windows Insider program and your computer is running Windows 10 build 15002 or higher you can delay Feature and Quality Updates in Windows 10 right now. Otherwise, you will need to wait until April when the Creators Update should be released to the general public.
