While many new iOS features are designed to expand the functionality of Apple’s mobile devices, others have the purpose of simplifying usage. One of the new iOS 10 features allows us to reply to messages directly on the lock screen.
This is undeniably useful for almost anyone, but it also poses security concerns. The “reply with message” feature makes it so that you can send a reply without unlocking your iPhone meaning that someone else could do it in your place.
How to disable Lock Screen message reply in iOS 10
If you’d rather give up this convenient feature for the sake of privacy and security, you can disable Lock Screen message reply in iOS 10. Before you proceed to the instruction below keep in mind this feature requires 3D Touch, so there’s nothing to disable unless you own an iPhone 6s or 6s Plus or you plan on getting an iPhone 7 or 7 Plus.
Open the Settings app, and go to ‘Touch ID & Passcode’. You’ll be prompted to enter your passcode so go ahead and to that.
Then, scroll down until you find the ‘Reply with Message’ option and disable it.
From then on, lock screen message replies will be disabled so no one will be able to respond to them without having to unlock the device first.
Speaking of privacy, it’s also a good idea to review the apps that can display lock screen notifications, to ensure no one can take a peek at your personal or sensitive content.
To do this, go to Settings -> Notifications. Select an app then toggle off the switch next to the “Show on Lock Screen” option. And if you’re not a fan of the iOS 10 Lock Screen widgets, you can disable them just as easily.
