EaseUs Todo Backup Free is a friendly application offering a simple way to backup files, folders, disks, partitions or the entire system so you can later recover them, should your system crash or get infected by malware.
Installation & Requirements
EaseUs Todo Backup Free is free, but only for home use, which is stated clearly in the License Agreement. If such is your case you can proceed to the rest of the setup, which is simple enough although it does try to push third-party software onto the system unless you opt out.
At the end of the installation you’ll also be asked to subscribe to an EaseUs newsletter, which is not optional: you’ll have to fill in an e-mail address if you want to use the program.
The program runs on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 with no other requirements.
Interface
EaseUs Todo Backup has a really practical interface: the clean layout organizes the program’s main functions in four different tabs: Home, Management, Logs and Upgrade.
In the Home tab users can quickly perform system, data, disk or partition backups from the Backup menu; the Recovery menu offers recovery capabilities for any of the above mentioned backup types; you can also clone the entire disk or just a partition from the Clone menu; the last menu, Tools, lets you perform a few other useful actions such as checking images for errors, creating a bootable disk and wiping data.
Performing a backup task is a streamlined process: after choosing the type (disk/partition, system or data), a dialog window will offer several options and settings. You can change the backup folder location, automate the backup through the Scheduler, choose how many days should backup images be preserved and access the Backup Options menu. Here you can further tweak the backup task as you can change the backup compression and priority levels, manual and automated file splitting, enable custom notifications and limit the write speed.
With the normal compression and priority settings (default), the backup process is not very fast. It took about 21 minutes to create a 31 GB system backup image. If you want to shorten the duration you can either increase the priority or simply perform the task before bedtime and enable the option that shuts down the computer once the backup process is complete.
The Management tab lists all performed backups and offers schedule, recovery, backup (full or incremental) and advanced options for each of them. The advanced options include editing the plan, deleting the backup and checking the image for errors.
Users can see all backup and recovery related events in the Logs tab. The last tab, Upgrade offers a side-by-side comparison of EaseUs Todo Backup Free, Home and Workstation offering buy links for the commercial editions.
