How To: Enable or disable App Launch Tracking in Windows 10

Just like in older versions of the operating system, Windows 10’s Start menu includes a “Most used” area for apps. Windows 10 monitors your frequently used apps to display in that section of the Start menu. Since this is a privacy feature, you might want to disable App Launch Tracking in Windows 10.

With App Launch Tracking enabled, the OS will track your most used apps to get the related section in the Start menu and also for improved Cortana search results. The feature is enabled by default, but if you’re a privacy conscious person, you will probably want to disable it. Here’s how it’s done.

How to enable or disable App Launch Tracking in Windows 10

The first thing you need to do is launch the Settings app. Then, navigate to Privacy -> General (as I already mentioned, App Launch Tracking is a Privacy feature).

disable App Launch Tracking in Windows 10

In the General tab, find the option called “Let Windows track app launches to improve Start and search results”. Toggle off the switch right under it to disable App Launch Tracking. Obviously, you can return to the same Settings screen whenever you want to turn the feature back on.

App Launch Tracking may not be the most intrusive privacy feature but at the very least we get the option to disable it. Speaking off, once you turn it off, the “Most used” app section from the Start menu will disappear.
