[Tip] Enable proper titles in iOS Notes app

The iOS stock Notes app has plenty of useful features, but also some annoyances. One of them is that creating a new note requires you to type the text body, and the beginning of that text become’s the note’s title. This is the default behavior which can make for not-so-relevant titles, but it is possible to enable proper titles in iOS notes app.

The start of the text body may not always make a relevant title for a note in which case the default behavior of the Notes app can make it difficult to organize your notes in an efficient manner.

How to enable proper titles in iOS Notes app

Luckily, the Notes app can be set to show the note’s title on the list page so you can find a specific note much easier. To enable proper titles in iOS Notes app you’ll need to make use of a simple option located in the Settings app.

This option will require you to enter the title first when you create a new note. Then, you can hit the return key to type the text body. Here’s what you need to do:

On your iPhone or iPad, open the Settings app and navigate to the ‘Notes’ option. On the following screen, tap on the option called ‘New Notes Start With’.

Select ‘Title’ from the available option.

From then on, when you create a new note in the Notes app you will first enter the title, which will also be displayed in the list view. This certainly makes it easier to manage notes created in the iOS stock Notes app, as well as quickly spot the one you’re searching for in list view.
