‘Threshold’ is known to be the next major Windows update with a focus on delivering more enterprise features. Microsoft sent out official invitations to a San Francisco event scheduled for September 30. There’s no mention of Windows ‘Threshold’ anywhere in the invite, but it does say:
Join us to hear what’s next for Windows and the enterprise.
Plus there have already been leaks saying Microsoft is planning to offer the first preview of ‘Threshold’ sometime in late September or early October. The next major Windows update should become available in spring 2015 – although we won’t be getting a preview of all its features during the San Francisco event.
Instead, Microsoft will focus on presenting the latest changes for “Desktop”‘ that Threshold’ brings to Intel-based machines. Threshold is the next major OS update for Windows, but also probably the last. Post-‘Threshold’ Microsoft plans to stick to releasing smaller, frequent updates.
This update will bring significant improvements to Windows OS, but not only – it’s appearance and functionality will greatly depend on hardware profiles. There are even some rumors saying Microsoft officials are contemplating the idea of making Threshold free to Windows 7 and 8 users, but we’ll just have to wait and see.
