Google Maps for Android updated with navigation sharing

Google Maps received an update that takes the app to version 9.3 – the update is a minor one, so it’s not chalked full of features, but there are a few things worthy of attention. Until now, we’ve been able to send a place located in Google Maps to any of our contacts but not the same can be said about directions.

Starting today, Google Maps lets you easily share directions from any navigation route you open inside the app. A new option has been added to the menu, called “Share directions”. Once you use the option, a numbered list with directions along with an attached will be automatically created. Then you can share it via email as well as compatible apps.

The update also lets Glass users share directions to Google Glass and brings the option to permanently dismiss the nag popup dialog that shows if your location settings are not optimized for Maps. The guys at Android Police have spotted other additions the the app’s code that include the option to run at startup and new permissions such as access to Bluetooth settings and devices.

The updates is being rolled out via the Play Store, but if it’s not available for your region yet you can go ahead and download the Google-signed APK from here.
