Themes allow you to give a unique look to your copy of Windows, and the option to create custom ones has been available since Windows 7. The same capability still exists in the latest update but you can also save themes for sharing on Windows 10.
However, the process is now more intricate than it was in Windows 7 because Windows 10 has both the new Settings and the old Control Panel, and each one comes with its own set of options. Since you can still save themes for sharing on Windows 10, we’ll explain how you can access this option below.
How to save Themes for Sharing on Windows 10
Navigate to Settings -> Personalization -> Background.
Here you can setup the background which can be a photo, a solid color or a slideshow.
When you finish setting up the background, click on Themes and then select ‘Theme settings‘.
Now, the Control Panel will open, and that’s what I was talking about when I was saying things are not so intuitive in Windows 10, at least not when you want to save a theme for sharing.
To continue, right-click any unsaved theme and from the context menu, select the ‘Save theme for sharing‘ option.
Now you can share the theme or just keep it stored as a backup. If you save a Windows 10 theme it can only be used on other Windows 10 computers. Nevertheless, themes saved on Windows 7 can be shared with any other Windows 7 version, as well as newer versions, up to Windows 10.
