How To: Hide your email address from the Windows 10 login screen

Many users are annoyed by the fact Windows 10 really wants you to log in using a password, PIN or another form of identification regardless if you’re using a local or a Microsoft account. As if that weren’t enough, until the Anniversary Update it was practically impossible to hide your email address from the login screen.

Nevertheless, the Anniversary Update fixed plenty of problems, and it is now possible to hide your email address from the Windows 10 login screen. This is extremely important if you want privacy at work, at a cafeteria or other public places where there are a lot of prying eyes.

How to hide your email address from the Windows 10 login screen

Luckily, hiding your private details from the lock screen is very easy, so here’s what you need to do:

Before you proceed to follow the instructions, be aware these options are available starting with the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (released on August 2nd, 2016) so please make sure your copy of Windows 10 is up to date.

Go to Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in options.

Scroll down a bit and under Privacy you will find the “Show account details” option. By default it will be turned ON, which is something we don’t want so toggle off the switch to disable it.
