How To: Install the Sony Xperia Weather app on other Android devices

Every major Android smartphone manufacturer has at least a few outstanding apps, although these are designed for their own brand. Among other apps, Sony Xperia devices have a great weather app with a sleek Material Design interface and an equally attractive home screen widget.

Luckily, every now and then a developer decides to make a brand-specific app to work on the rest of Android devices (or at least most of them) and such is the case for Xperia’s beautiful weather app. Continue reading to learn how to install it on your Android phone or tablet (it’s a simple and quick process).

Before you dive in, you’ll need a device running Android 5.0 or a newer version and the ‘Unknown sources’ option enabled. This option allows you to install apps using .APK files and you can turn it on in the Settings app under “Security” or “Lock screen and security“.

You’ll get a ‘Download complete‘ notification once the file is saved on your device. Tap on the notification, then select ‘Install‘.

When you open the app for the first time, it will require access to your location data – this is needed if you want weather updates for your current location, so tap on ‘Allow‘ to continue.

In the Settings menu you can tweak a few options, like changing the temperature format from Celsius to Fahrenheit, and disabling features such as extra details and RealFeel – a more accurate estimation of how the current temperature feels based on various factors such as wind and humidity among others.

Sony Xperia’s Weather app definitely blends well on Android devices thanks to its clean Material design interface. It doesn’t have a whole lot of features, but if you just want weather updates and forecasts it will do the job flawlessly.
