IOTA has officially announced compatibility with the Ledger hardware wallets which will allow IOTA coin holders to store their MIOTA coins on any Ledger hardware wallet, including the Nano S.
Ledger hardware wallets provide full support for IOTA’s Trinity wallet as well as for Romeo wallets. The user seeds are isolated from their computer or smartphone as an additional layer of security. The Ledger Nano S hardware wallet will allow users to protect their private keys by providing access to their IOTA tokens in a secure chip.
In a Medium post, Eric Larchevêque, the CEO of Ledger explained:
“Providing the highest level of security and quality is a major focus at both Ledger and IOTA. The collaboration between the teams created an immediate synergy focused on developing a compatibility feature that allows users to access, store and manage IOTA tokens on Ledger devices.”
Larchevêque also stated the company is devoted to providing the most secure and usable standalone virtual wallet and Trinity will meet these expectations. He welcomed IOTA to the Ledger platform and highlighted that both companies are dedicated to providing their users with the highest level of security and quality.
IOTA plans include scalability and free transactions, but also Internet of Things (IoT) application. Right now, there are approximately 31 billion IoT devices in the world and the number increase rate is exponential.
MIOTA is in the top 20 cryptocurrencies based on market cap (according to data from coinmarketcap.com) and had a memorable launch on Bitfinex Exchange in July. Back then, IOTA trading was more than double the USD volume within the first two hours of trading.
IOTA co-founder David Sønstebø explains their collaboration with Ledger:
“At IOTA, we made a commitment to delivering the safest and most usable standalone cryptocurrency wallet. The Trinity wallet is well on its way to fulfilling that commitment, and today we are proud to announce the next step on the journey,” he said. “Ledger has earned a strong reputation for security and reliability, and this made it a natural choice for integration with Trinity. We are proud of how our community, the IOTA developers and the Ledger team have worked together to make this possible.”
In October, IOTA announced its expansion to Hong Kong and the newly appointed Head of Asia Pacific Benjamin Soong. Then, Ledger CEO Eric Larchevêque declared:
“Providing the highest level of security and quality is a major focus at both Ledger and IOTA. The collaboration between the teams created an immediate synergy concentrated on developing a compatibility feature allowing users to access, store and manage IOTA tokens on Ledger devices. We are thrilled to welcome IOTA onto the Ledger platform.”
IOTA collaborates with major industry giants
In September, Bosch, Volkswagen, and Fujitsu revealed their collaboration with IOTA to use its Tangle Technology for product and service automation.
At the end of 2017 Bosch showcased its new sensor XDK or Cross Domain Development Kit using IOTA’s Tangle technology. The XDK sensors were designed to instantly send updates regarding new changes to Bosch products.
Also in September IOTA announced its partnership with Volkswagen. Digital CarPass is the first product developed by the companies and is scheduled for release in 2019. The project will track performance data using IOTA blockchain technology to provide the most reliable and secure vehicle data collection.
Regarding IOTA’s collaboration with Fujitsu, the two companies are developing a new blockchain based audit trail system. The IOTA ecosystem will be used as a form of storage which can enable the nuwave audit trail. Its ultimate goals will be to provide customers with increased transparency, as well as trustworthy and secure data.
