iSpy: Security monitoring tool

iSpy is a complete security package that will let you capture audio and video feed from any camera and microphone that you set up with the program, offering unlimited protection capabilities.

Installation & Requirements

The setup process is really quite simple with few options like installing the software for every user or only for yourself and creating desktop shortcuts. The supported operating systems are Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8. Theoretically the program could work on any other Windows version that supports Microsoft’s .NET Framework 4 as it is a prerequisite for iSpy to work.

Interface

When you first start the application you will be greeted by a window containing various details about the program and links to guides that will help you kick-start your familiarity with the program’s interface and how it works. You will also be linked to the plugins where you can download a variety of already existing ones or even follow the steps to creating one of your own if you are an advanced user who wants to contribute.

On to the main interface, the visual look of iSpy is very clean and organized, probably owning to the fact that it is a security application. Adding new security measures Is really quite easy. Simply click on the Add icon of the top toolbar and you will have various options that you can choose. Each option comes with its own configuration wizard.  The cameras, for example, will let you select your own resolution for the output file and the microphones can be set to activate only at specific circumstances. You can also add less conventional things like floor plans. There is no limit to the amount of things you can add into the application. It is only limited by the amount of pressure your PC can handle but if you add too many it will probably crash.

For some of the more advanced features like remote control and accessing your files on the web, you will need to create an account with the application online. It is free and very simple and you obviously only have to do it once. Controlling the various modules that you have installed can obviously be done locally as well and it is made far easier by the toolbar in the right bottom corner of the program. The cameras and microphones can always be changed to start detecting at different time intervals or even when they detect movement which is extremely useful for when you want to protect your house from burglaries.

It is also worth noting that even though most users will be fine with the default options, more advanced users will definitely want to check out the settings as they offer a myriad of different options and can really help you customize the whole experience.
