Instagram released their new Layout app for Android today, which allows users to create collages using various designs. Of course, there are many other apps with this capability, although Layout is incredibly user friendly, despite the fact it’s newly launched.
Layout comes with a sleek UI, where you can use touch controls like quickly drag and drop photos, adjust photo frames by dragging the borders and pinch to zoom in, among other options.
Users can create collages using up to 9 images, and if people are involved, the Faces tab will ease the task as it features only photos with people in them. Also, you can see photos you’ve recently used in a dedicated tab.
Besides existing photos, you can grab new ones using the Photo Booth mode and once you save a layout in the camera roll, a variety of sharing options are at your disposal. There are several built-in layouts, but you can further customize any of them, plus if you’re really into image editing you can give your collage that certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ using Instagram’s own tools and filters.
The Layout app gives a lot of room for creativity, although it’s really easy to use. You won’t get a ton of editing options and while extra features will likely be added over time, you can still edit your photos individually as well as the entire collage in a more complex image editing app.
