NewFileTime: Edit file and folder timestamps

If you are getting frustrated by wrong timestamps on folders or if you want to hide your file and folder activities, NewFileTime can help you alter it with a free and portable utility.

Installation & Requirements

The application is standalone, requiring no installation. Download the files, extract them anywhere in your computer and run the executable file. The supported operating systems are Windows 98, XP, Vista, 7 and 8 as well as Windows Server 2000, 2003 and 2005.

Interface

There is only one window for the whole application and it honestly does not need anything more. You can put files and folders by dragging and dropping them or by clicking on the import button and browsing your computer for them.  Then you simply need to click on them to change their time.

Setting the time is also very easy. Simply choose the exact date, down to the seconds, and click on the “Set – Time” button. You can manually insert the time you want or choose through various options from a drop down list. You can preview the files you have selected in the bottom of the window. You can see the actual time they were created as well as the time that you have set. When you press the Set – Time button the preview changes in real time so that you know it works.

Lastly, you can export the changes that you have made to an external file. That way you can keep track of all the changes you have made so that you are not confused. You can also then import such files to implement the changes again. This is very handy if you want to hide the times you access or create files for whatever reason. You can keep those files in an encrypted folder and then alter them at will.

Pros

-No installation required and a very small file size
-Extremely easy to use interface
-Fully customizable timestamps down to the seconds
-The ability to import and export text files containing the timestamps
-A wide array of languages available

Cons

-The program could benefit from some more options regarding the importing and exporting of the files

Conclusion

Honestly, NewFileTime does exactly what the name would suggest. So if you are looking for a very easy and convenient way to alter the timestamps of your files and folders with a very user friendly interface, then the program should cover you.
