Nokia may not produce smartphones anymore but they’re seriously committed to their maps service. HERE Maps for both Android and Windows Phone have just received an update and the changes affect maps of all continents – related to newly built or modified roads and constructions among other improvements.
The latest version of HERE Maps features new navigable countries, namely Cyprus, Mayotte and Zimbabwe which just got full turn-by-turn directions while others like Comoros, Fiji, Liberia and Madagascar received various improvements that include land usage information and identification of major roads.
It looks like HERE Maps is not just about the roads, since Nokia has added display improvements for inland water – rivers, lakes and ponds.
Public transport maps are now more accurate and detailed in various cities from all across the world. Public transit lines in Chicago now reflect their geography and other locations like Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Taipei and Singapore have an improved display of their subway, train and tram lines paths.
The update is still rolling out so it may not be available for you right now, but Nokia says to be patient and check again a few days later. WP users you know the drill….the Store app will alert you when the update is available or you can go ahead and check for it manually under Settings – Applications tab – Maps – Check for updates.
