PDF Split and Merge Basic is a very easy to use application that will let you do various things with your PDF files like splitting and merging them. The application is entirely free.
Installation & Requirements
The setup process offers a few options here and there like creating desktop shortcuts. However, you will need to be wary of the third party applications that the installer might try to install on your computer. Simply uncheck their respective boxes when they come up during the setup. The supported operating systems are Windows XP and later, Mac OS and Linux. Keep in mind that you will have to download the appropriate 32 or 64 bit version for the application to work. You will also need Java’s Runtime Environment.
Interface
The application starts in the about page, informing you of the people that have worked on the project and various other details like the product version and more. The utilities of the application are accessed in the left side toolbar under the Plugins folder. Each utility has its own interface that you can access by simply clicking on its name.
The common things shared amongst the various utilities are how the files are handled. To add your PDF files, simply drag and drop them in the blank window that is located in the top of every tab. You can also click on the Add button to browse your computer for the files. You can delete a single file by choosing the Remove option and you can also clear the entire selection by clicking on the respective button. In some of the functions, your PDF pages will be displayed in the top window as you will have to work on them on the spot.
Despite the name, the application offers more than just a splitting and merging module. You can mix and match the pages of the PDFs, you can rotate the pages, you can completely rearrange the documents and view the changes in real time and obviously, split and merge them. Each tab of the interface serves one of those specific functions and each one comes with its very own options. In the splitting utility, for example, you have a lot of options on how you want to split the pages, like splitting every page into a single one, splitting every set amount of pages, splitting when the file reaches a certain size and more.
