Quick Tip: Here’s how you can logout of Facebook Messenger on Android

Facebook was kind enough to offer its chat function as a standalone app, but unlike the Facebook app, Messenger lacks the sign out option. Needless to say, plenty of users are not happy about this.

Pretty much any decent IM app I know has this option, so it would be difficult to consider Facebook just forgot to place it there – they just love to keep you connected to their services as long as possible.

The good news is there’s a solution available. The first thing you need to do, is to close the Messenger app from the recent apps list. Then open the Settings app and go to Apps (or Application Manager) and tap on Messenger, then on Clear data.

Messenger log out 1

The next time you open the Messenger app, you won’t automatically log in.

If you want to log out completely, this can only be accomplished if you log out of the Facebook app as well. Sadly, there’s no other way to do this. Even if the method described above is hardly ideal, since it should be available as an option within the app, let us take comfort knowing we can at least log out of Messenger, regardless if it takes a couple of minutes to do it.

And if Facebook’s shenanigans are starting to get a bit old for you, there are plenty of chat apps and social networks to keep you connected to your friends.
