By default, the iPhone displays its signal strength in cute little circles, but most users find them fairly informative, since only the iPhone manufacturers know the difference between two circles instead of five. If you’d rather have your iPhone display the signal strength in percentage, follow this somewhat odd, but functional tutorial to tweak that display system.
Here is how you do it:
#1. Go to your Phone application and launch the dial pad.
#2. Enter the following code: *3001#12345#*
#3. Tap Call.
#4. You will see the screen for the “Field Test” pop up. The upper left corner of the display will display signal strength in numbers. Now, how nice is that? The lower the number, the worse is the signal, which makes perfect sense., namely indicators above -80 are for good signal, and indicators below -105 are for really bad signal.
#5. Now, you need to fix that display method to be displayed on your home screen for good. To do that, hold Sleep/Wake button and the Home button simultaneously until the phone turns off. When it turns back on, your home screen is supposed to display numeric signal strength indicator.
If you want the circles back, just tap the signal.
Note, however, that the tweak will only make your home screen display the signal strength in numbers instead of circles. It will not physically improve your device’s receiving capability.
