Agat: An emulator that lets you experience the first computer systems and create custom ones with virtual hardware components or using presets

Older computers seem obsolete compared to modern machines, and the truth is…they are. However, despite their limited functionality, they do stand at the core of today’s powerful computers which can run complex and resource-demanding applications and games.

Agat is an interesting emulator that lets you see how older machines worked and enthusiasts can even create custom virtual models. A large portion of the interface is dedicated to showing all machines and offers a number of presets that use old systems like Sprite OS, IKP, Apple Desktop and a few more.

You can further customize any of the presets or add virtual hardware components to customize your machine. Once you choose the system type which can be Agat, Apple, Enhanced Apple IIe, Acorn Atom or Pravetz.

Nevertheless, you can also customize each slot such as the memory, CPU and ROM and replace them with other components offered by the application. Then you can save your new configuration after which it will be displayed in the dashboard list.

Multiple instances of Agat can run simultaneously, which can be quite useful and not at all resource demanding. Systems run in a small window by default and while it can’t be enlarged you can run it in full screen mode.

If you use the same configuration often, you can set it to automatically start in full screen. There are more useful options provided by the app like saving the state of any machine, importing virtual disks and a reset/hard reset function you can use when freezing or crashes occur.
