HostsCK: Seamlessly access and edit Windows' Host file

HostsCK is a lightweight utility that lets you open and edit the Windows host file. The host file in Windows maps the hostnames to the IP addresses which are then converted to URLs. Using the hosts file you can block various ads, pop-ups, and banners which will ensure a faster Internet connection and a smoother web browsing experience.

Once you install HostsCK you will need to open it as an administrator and close the Windows service that handles DNS requests. The application's main purpose is to let you read the content in the hosts file easier as it allows you to change font colors to improve readability in the file.

The program lets you check out premade lists of blocked websites on mvps.org or similar websites. You can use this list to download and update your hosts files but keep in mind it is recommended to do it after you create a backup of the old one. The lists include known adware sites and by adding them to your hosts file you will ensure ads from these providers are not displayed as you're browsing the web. It's also worth mentioning that HostsCK makes it easy to revert the hosts file and remove the changes with a single click.
