Maxima: A comprehensive computer algebra system supporting a variety of symbolic operations

Maxima is a Windows application that lets you perform a large number of mathematical calculations related to numerical constants, complex numbers, linear system and cubic equations, differential and integral calculus, nonlinear sets of equations, and generating plots.

The easy-to-understand graphical layout allows users to insert variables and functions in a simple and well-organized working environment. The tool comes with support for undo/redo, basic editing actions – cut, copy, paste, delete -, zoom in/out, find and replace words and enable the full-screen mode.

A number of functions for complex expressions such as roots and quotients can be simplified. To continue, the application lets you insert strings and constants, design structures for identifying arguments by name and expressions by the operator and create an n-dimensional array.

A variety of operators is included, plus you can always edit any of them or create new ones. There’s also support for mathematical functions and floating-point numbers. The plotting function can be used to calculate a set of points and users can also generate code in other programming languages and perform command-line operations. You can print the data or export it to TEXT or HTML files.
