Packer: Clone your virtual machine images in order to deploy them on multiple platforms

Packer is a command-line tool that allows you to clone virtual machine images in order to deploy them on several platforms without having to make new versions. The cloning process requires an initial configuration in order to create identical copies of image machines.

Packer makes it easy to create images, as it works with other programs like Chef or Puppet as you create the configuration file. Furthermore, it offers native support for VirtualBox, DigitalOcean, VMware, and Amazon EC2 platforms.

You can access the tool via the command line prompt and it is possible to use various switches and hints to automate machine image deployment.

What’s more, the application tests the machine image as soon as it is deployed to ensure everything works properly.
