Prime95: A straightforward piece of software that can find Mersenne Prime numbers

Prime95 is a small and effective application that allows you to find Mersenne Prime numbers. Mersenne number is a prime of the form 2P-1. At the moment, there are only 50 known Mersenne primes.

There are two methods of using Prime95. The first method is automated and relies on the PrimeNet central server.

It will perform the calculations and send you a report containing the results. This method requires a working Internet connection.

The second method can be used on PCs without Internet access or if the firewall prevents the automatic method from functioning properly. It’s also worth mentioning it involves considerably more work compared to the first method.

Prime95 also includes a “Torture Test” that should be run for 24 full hours to check your system’s stability. It’s recommended you closely monitor your PC during the test to avoid any potential problems caused by overheating.
