RecFusion: Reconstruct 3D replicas of people and object using depth sensors from Microsoft Kinect and Asus Xtion

RecFusion is an interesting application that lets you create 3D replicas of your friends, family, pets, vehicles and furniture. With this tool, elements are rebuilt in real-time as you scan then with depth sensors like Microsoft Kinect and Asus Xtion Pro.

At first run, a sensor scanning is recommender, so the program can identify the controllers that are connected to your computer. For each of the installed devices, the app lets you select the orientation, color and depth format, as well as depth cutoff.

People and objects will be reconstructed as you move the controller around them. The rebuilds can be previewed in RecFusion’s main window, plus you can set the position, resolution and volume size in the control tab.

There are also various mesh post-processing features such as removal of small components and unwanted geometry, reduce the number of triangles, crop the mesh and so on, which allow you to correct and optimize your project.
