TextAloud: A straightforward tool for converting text documents to audio files

Dictation software abounds, and truth be told, such applications can be very useful when you need to turn your speech into text but you don’t have a personal assistant for this purpose. However, you might also need the opposite functionality – converting text documents to audio files - , in which case TextAloud can be of help.

The application comes with a straightforward UI, where you can start adding text. To make the tool speak the text you simply need to press the dedicated button.

Among the few configuration options you will find the ability to change the title and tweak the pitch, volume and speed. There’s also the possibility to save the article as an audio or a text file, enable multi-article mode, as well as split and batch convert files.

Essential text editing functions are provided, specifically cut, copy, paste, undo, redo and search. What’s more, TextAloud lets you add a pause, change the voice, and make it speak the current article or skip to the next one.

Regarding the program’s settings, the tool allows you to configure the file output to multiple files, define a pause interval for sentences and paragraphs, enable it to speak new text automatically, setup keyboard shortcuts, choose the preferred audio device, personalize toolbars, use another interface skin and the list goes on.
