WakeOnLAN
1.0WakeOnLAN: Switch on another computer
Switch on another computerThis program is a simple command line utility that lets you switch on another computer.
The WakeOnLAN application was created to be a small command line tool that makes it possible to switch on one computer from a second one by sending a "Magic Packet". Both of the computers can be located on the same LAN or even on different LAN segments.
Requirements to use the program
- An ATX motherboard that has an onboard, 3-pin "WOL" connector
- An ATX power supply that meets ATX 2.01 specifications
- A network card that supports the program with a correctly installed motherboard cable
You need to turn on the LAN Wakeup option in BIOS Power Management.
Use the following command in a Windows DOS box:
MC-WOL ethernet-address [/a ip-address] [/p password]
The Ethernet address is the address of the network adapter of the computer you wish to turn on.
The ip address is multicast IP address of the LAN of the computer you wish to turn on. If both computer are on the same LAN this argument is not required.
The password will only be required on some adapters and it will be in displayed in Ethernet hex format. (i.e. 01:AA:02:BB or 01:AA:02:BB:03:CC:04:DD).
If the computer you wish to turn on is on a different LAN, then you must specify the IP address.
