By default, the stock Notes app on iOS and Mac sorts notes by the date they were last modified on. This might be useful for some, but you can also sort notes based on creation date in iOS, if this option better suits your needs.
The default sort works like this – even if a note was created 3 months ago but it’s the last one edited it will show at the top of the list. If you decide to sort notes based on creation date on iOS, the first note in the list will be the most recently created one.
How to sort Notes based on creation date in iOS
The same behavior happens in the Notes app for Mac. To sort notes based on creation date in iOS you simply need to change a simple option in the Settings app. Keep reading to find out how.
On your iPhone or iPad open the Settings app, scroll down a bit and select ‘Notes’.
On the following screen, tap on the ‘Sort Notes By’ option. Then, tap on ‘Date Created’ if you want to see the newest note show up first in the list. Alternatively, you can use the ‘Title’ option if you want your notes sorted alphabetically.
The same options are available on the Mac, and you can find them on the Preferences screen. Once you click on the dropdown menu next to the ‘Sort notes by:’ option you can choose how you want your notes arranged just like in the iOS Notes app.
