Touch ID is one of the most convenient (and secure) methods to authenticate app and in-app purchases since you no longer have to type your account password and it’s much faster to simply use your fingerprint.
Like any other type of software capability, Touch ID can stop working properly at times. When this happens, the App Store will require you to enter your account password, instead of allowing you to authenticate using your fingerprint.
How to fix Touch ID not working in the App Store on iPhone and iPad
However, there’s a simple way to fix Touch ID not working in the App Store and I’ll show you how to do it below.
Open the Settings app and go to Touch ID & Passcode. Enter your passcode if prompted to do so.
Now, toggle off Touch ID and passcode for “iTunes & App Store”.
Then, you will need to restart your device which you can do by holding down the lock button to power it down and do this one more time to turn it back on.
At this point you can return to Settings -> Touch ID & Passcode, and activate the toggle next to “iTunes & App Store”.
This method usually lets you fix Touch ID not working in the App Store. From then on, you should be prompted to use Touch ID when trying to buy something from the App Store.
If Touch ID is still not working in the App Store you should make sure it’s not a hardware issue which you can do by trying to use Touch ID on the lock screen.
