With all the latest identity, phishing and fraud attempts, protecting your privacy is not optional anymore. Windows 10 is known to have default settings that are not privacy-friendly, so to speak.
How applications make use of the webcam is incredibly important, and if you really want to be on the safe side it’s a good idea to prevent Windows 10 apps from using the webcam.
How to prevent Windows 10 apps from using your webcam
Before you proceed to reading the instructions, you should know these setings are only for modern apps. Desktop apps remain unaffected – if you’re looking to restrict these programs you will need to look inside each one’s Settings or Options menu.
Open the Settings app and select Privacy.
Now click or tap on Camera. If you want to  prevent Windows 10 apps from using the webcam, simply disable the first option called “Let apps use my camera”. As I already mentioned, this setting only affects modern apps.
However, you can disable the camera on a per-app basis. Under the “Choose apps that can use your camera” you can find a list of all modern apps that are able to use the webcam. You can disable the ones you don’t want to allow access to the camera one-by-one.
