Windows, and most other operating systems send a sound alert every time they’re started. While that sound is usually subtle and far from annoying, you might want to get rid of it, especially if you need to keep it quite, like when others are sleeping right next to you. Luckily, you can easily disable startup sound in Windows 10.
Of course, there are other options, such as turning down your PC’s volume to zero or plugging in a pair of headphones, but if you want to avoid being taken by surprise by that startup sound, the safest way is to simply turn it off.
How to disable startup sound in Windows 10
Windows 10’s startup sound can be easily disabled from the system sound settings. No need for third-party apps and whatnot. Here’s what you need to do:
Open the Control Panel and while in Category view, go to ‘Hardware and Sound’.
Click on ‘Sound’ on the following screen.
In the Sound window, click on the Sounds tab. Under Program Events, there is an option called ‘Play Windows Startup Sound’. Uncheck the box next to it.
Now that you’ve managed to disable startup sound in Windows 10, you won’t be hearing any audio notifications at system boot. However, keep in mind that disabling the startup sound is done on a per-user basis so it only applies to the currently logged in user.
If you want to disable the startup audio for other users you will need to log in with each and repeat all the steps above. At the very least, you only need to do this once, and you don’t need to install a third-party app for the purpose so it’s worth the effort.
