[Guide] Use Cortana’s dictionary in Windows 10

Cortana is a controversial feature in Windows 10, mostly because of her privacy intrusions. But to be honest, any digital assistant will tap into your personal habits, as that is practically what powers any AI. For those who don’t have privacy issues, Microsoft’s assistant can be quite useful. For example, you can use Cortana’s dictionary in Windows 10, as a convenient way to look up word definitions directly from your desktop.

Any words you write to Cortana are analyzed, and if she considers you are trying to find what a word means she will use the Oxford Dictionaries engine to deliver an answer.

The AI lets you use natural language, and for the purpose of this guide, I typed ‘What does complaisant mean‘, but you can look up any word you want.

The definition will quickly be displayed and if you want to find out more, you can click on it to expand it. You can find out additional information about the word by clicking on the ‘See more results on Bing.com‘ option, which will take you to an online search powered by Microsoft’s search engine.

Alternatively, you can rephrase your search query as Cortana is pretty good at understanding natural languages. We used ‘define complaisant‘ in the example above and received the same result as before.
