Volvo’s On Call app will soon get a major update scheduled for release at the end of June that will allow Volvo owners to connect with their cars using Android and iOS wearables. This way, drivers get control over car settings and remote functions such as locate, lock/unlock and other Volvo services from wearables like Android Wear and the Apple Watch.
The Volvo On Call app offers a convenient way to remotely control car functions like heater timings, locate but also access to information like mileage and fuel level, says David Holecek, Director of Connected Products and Services at Volvo Cars.
Besides wearable connectivity, the update will introduce other capabilities like an iPad tailored UI and a Cortana-enabled Windows Phone app, as well as ‘send to car’ functionality for navigation instructions and data. It looks like Volvo is working hard to make its On Call services available on all important mobile platforms not just wearable friendly.
The Volvo On Call car-based telemetric system has been available since 2001 and it now has approximately 230 000 subscribers from all around the world. During the past year, the remote heater in Volvo card has been used about 8 million times.
There are versions of the Volvo On Call app available in iOS, Android and Windows Phone app stores (and they’re certainly worth giving a try if you’re a Volvo owner), but the above mentioned features will only be implemented in the upcoming update which is set to arrive at the end of June.
