WhatsApp received Material Design today, and the interface was completely redesigned in the latest update to version 2.12.38. The new layout has a dark green theme, resembling the web app of the popular chat service.
However, the latest version of WhatsApp didn’t hit the Play Store yet – but it will probably happen soon. Until then, if you’re impatient and want to try the update, you can download it from WhatsApp’s official website.
The UI received more than Material Design elements, as WhatsApp’s devs added more fluid animations and a new status bar, among other improvements. Also, the app now features new profiles and sharing options, but we’ll know more once the WhatsApp team releases the official changelog.
WhatsApp works on devices running under Android 2.1 and higher, although older versions may not get the full set of features. You can download the latest APK file from here, if you don’t want to wait until it becomes available in the Play Store, which might take a few days.
