YUMI (Your Universal Multiboot Installer) is a MultiBoot and MultiSystem USB creator. This means that you can use the application to create a USB flash drive that will let you run multiple operating systems on one computer. The application is completely free.
Installation & Requirements
No installation is required for the application. Simply download and run the executable file. The application can be run in Windows XP and later as well as some Linux distributions like Ubuntu and Debian. You will also need an active internet connection for some aspects of the application.
Interface
When you first run the program you will need to agree to the license agreement. That will take you to the next and main window of the program. In this step you will need to insert your USB flash drive if you have not done so already. If you cannot find it in the list for whatever reason, be sure to check the “Show All Drives?” option and it should appear.
You can do a number of things with the program. The most obvious one is to download and install a new Linux-based distribution. The list of supported distributions is enormous. You can either load a distribution that you have already downloaded or download one on the spot with a link provided by the application. To get a link, simply choose a distribution from the dropdown list and then check the Download Link option. A new window will appear asking you to confirm the download. Your default browser will automatically open and the download will start. If it does not, the program will offer a direct link to the homepage of the system so that you can manually download it. If you already own an ISO of the distribution you can simply browse your computer for it.
Apart from the various distributions the application also offers a lot of other utilities. For example, you can use it to create a recovery disk or install an antivirus application to clean an infected computer. You can even use it as to create a bootable Windows disk. Just scroll down the huge dropdown list and you will see a ton of options that you can use with the program. In addition to that, you can view and remove already installed distributions and format the entire USB by checking the respective options in the top right corner of the application. When you are ready to take any action you simply have to click on the Create button to initiate the process and the program will take care of the rest.
