Far Manager: A simple and effective solution for system navigation

Far Manager is a handy application that offers a better alternative for system navigation by letting you use file sort groups and color highlighting. It works in text mode and offers most essential actions like file and directory viewing, editing, copying, file renaming....etc. in its functional UI.

The interface comes with multilingual support and can be quickly customized. Furthermore, you can enhance the app’s functionality via external DLL modules, also known as plugins, available through the Plugins API.

Examples of useful plugins packed in the standard distribution of FAR Manager are the FTP client, archive support, a network browser and the temporary panel. Users with technical knowledge can also write their own plugins.

FAR’s interface offers a friendly menu and drag and drop support for copy and move operations. Its options can be customized with very little effort using the internal/external file viewer and text editor, setting up file operation associations for various file types, several file sorting modes and the panel view.

Also, the tool supports long file names, hard/symbolic links and NTFS ‚compressed’ and ‚encrypted’ attributes. The app’s color scheme can be personalized and online help documentation is available as well.
