PunkBuster: Innovative Anti-Cheat system for online multiplayer games

Progression is one of the most important features of an online multiplayer game. In general meaning, progressing through a game will give your character/account a higher level/experience, rankings, achievements, equipment, in-game currency…etc.

Also, progression should be proportional with a player’s invested time, skill level and choice of activities. Often, players come up with ways of cheating the system so they end up above the majority but without putting in the same amount of effort.

PunkBuster is a unique Anti-Cheat system designed specifically for online multiplayer games to ensure a fair environment where everyone can enjoy the game.

You can install PunkBuster if you are a player/server hosting any of the supported games. PB will perform real-time scans on player’s machines looking for known hacks and cheats. You can also set up the PunkBuster Servers to perform random checks on players’ settings, searching for any possible exploits of the game’s engine.

Last but not least, PB lets admins prevent players from using offensive nicknames through its “bad name” function.
